History

St John the Baptist Church was consecrated in 1845 and is now one of Canberra’s most historic and treasured sites. The Church, graveyard and Schoolhouse Museum are living reminders of our pioneering farming community and continue to be part of the spiritual heart and life of the Nation’s Capital in the 21st Century.

The Jamieson Apartments will replace the existing building on the site, ‘Jamieson House’ which was used to accommodate the Diocese for the past 40 years. In need of essential maintenance and refurbishment, the Diocese made the decision to redevelop Jamieson House.
